This past week, I was incredibly lucky and happened to be in London during fashion week. Predictably, I was shocked/ awed/ intrigued by the street style. How often do you see someone in a feathered hat, or sparkly shoes, all in the name of fash-un? What struck me the most was the pageantry of it all. It became apparent to me that street style is truly a contrived “art”. Not to be too cynical, but is it for the photographers? Is it for fame? Is it to document how many layers of pastel faux fur you can wear at once? It’s fun, sure, but it’s also a big show.
In the spirit of ridiculousness, I threw together this outfit. It brings to mind chocolate boxes and mid 19th century English schoolgirls, all at once. It’s fun, which in my opinion is what fashion should be. A method of expression, a bit glamorous, a little je ne sais quoi, all tied up with a big red bow. If you like it, then you should have put a bow on it.
